Embraer KC-390 support deal with Brazil’s air force

Embraer KC-390 support takes a major step forward as the company signs a long-term logistics and maintenance contract with the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) for its KC-390 Millennium fleet.
Deepening lifecycle support for Brazil’s flagship airlifter

The new agreement provides support solutions for the FAB’s KC-390 fleet. Embraer and the FAB structured the deal as a long-term contract. It aims to increase logistics efficiency, boost operational predictability, and speed response times for frontline units.

Embraer said the agreement covers the KC-390 Millennium fleet, including aircraft already in service and those on order. This gives planners clearer visibility on through-life costs and availability. It aligns with a broader shift in defence aviation towards performance-based support arrangements. Under these arrangements, OEMs commit to readiness targets in exchange for multi-year revenue streams.

The KC-390 Millennium is a multi-mission transport aircraft designed for tactical and strategic airlift, including troop transport, medical evacuation, humanitarian assistance, and firefighting. Developed by Embraer as a next-generation medium transport, it can carry up to 23 tonnes of cargo and operate from unpaved runways. This makes it suitable for multiple military and emergency-response missions.

For the FAB, a more integrated support contract should translate into higher aircraft availability and simpler logistics planning. This is particularly relevant as the fleet assumes a larger share of strategic and tactical airlift tasks. For Embraer, it locks in a predictable services pipeline around a core domestic customer. That matters now, as the KC-390’s export list is lengthening.

Exports build momentum and services anchor value

Beyond Brazil, the KC-390 has moved from concept to a credible niche player in the global airlift market. Portugal and Hungary were early international buyers, and the Czech Republic ordered two KC-390 aircraft in October 2024.

This growing customer base increases the strategic value of the FAB support deal. As more air forces adopt the KC-390, Embraer’s ability to show high availability rates and efficient support at home becomes an important reference case for export campaigns. Long-term support contracts are also margin-accretive and less cyclical than new aircraft sales. This supports the group’s stated strategy to expand its services and support share of revenue.

Investors will read the FAB agreement as signalling continued demand for integrated lifecycle support tied to each KC-390 delivery. As more aircraft enter service worldwide, similar packages could scale into a sizeable installed-base services business. That dynamic mirrors trends in commercial aviation, where OEMs increasingly rely on long-term support to smooth earnings and deepen customer lock-in.

For now, the FAB deal confirms that Embraer KC-390 support is moving onto a more formal, long-horizon footing in Brazil, just as the aircraft’s international footprint grows. Investors should watch how Embraer converts new KC-390 export wins into bundled support contracts, and to what extent these recurring agreements lift margins and earnings visibility across its defence and services segments.
